Sessions are typically in St. Catharines outdoors but exceptions can be made and training/socialization outings can also take place elsewhere. Training outside and in public settings is often most beneficial so that your dog is learning in real-life scenarios with distractions around us. However, we also have an indoor location in the Thorold/Fonthill area for use for consultations and applicable training sessions.
Contact us to further discuss location options and session timing. Morning, afternoon, and evening sessions available. We train all seasons. Please let us know if you have concerns about the cold or weather though and we can discuss.
Training sessions should ideally be done weekly. Package sessions can be booked in advance or week to week. Days/times can be as consistent as possible or vary weekly based on your schedule.
When additional support is wanted, shorter training sessions can be scheduled between our weekly sessions. In some cases, a consult could be advised - for example, if an equipment change is needed or if your dog needs to be assessed.
Before your 1st session you will receive information on what to bring.
We review prior training each week.
Obedience Program Outline
1) Perfect Sit & Release (greetings + impulse control)
2) Walking on Leash (leash respect + heeling)
3) Learning to Stay (starts with Sit Stay)
4) Down at heel
5) Stand
6) Reliable Recall
Optional additional 30-minute session(s) available:
$35 for 30-minute training outing
We also include a variety of other valuable training commands and games during obedience sessions including working on a focus command, turns, positional commands, a secondary reinforcer, greetings, down stay, information on leash respect games, games to build value for their name etc.
Time permitting we can also work together on “place”, “leave it”, and “out”/“drop” during these sessions, or book an additional session.
Please note, when choosing to start the Obedience Program without a prior consult, especially for puppies, Session 1 may start with Obedience Foundations instead of Sit & Release (or combine both time permitting).
The session outline can be shifted in general and to accommodate in those cases, as we always aim to tailor our sessions to each clients needs.
Sessions can also be used fully towards reviewing as needed such as proofing commands and building confidence by doing training outings together.
